  • DJ Helsing: Rise of the Planet of the Apes is getting a lot of press and popularity. With its release just two weeks ago its already top of the charts bringing in over 27 million dollars in just a 2 week period. The story and graphics are superb and definitely a must see for fans of epic action sequences and superb computer animation!
  • DarkPoet: Captain America - A significant improvement from the previous one in the past, Captain America strikes with significant force and turns out to be an extremely enjoyable watch and one of my favorite superhero movies released in the past 5 years.

  • DJ Helsing: Pokemon TCG Online has just recently opened the beta test of their new online card game. Fans of the Pokemon Trading card Game can now learn how to play and battle fierce computer opponents online for the first time in history. With the initial Beta release of Pokemon Online users can play with pre made decks against a large number of computer opponents to try to be the best Pokemon trainer. With the upcoming full feature release players will be able to not only play against computers but also play against other users online in real time as well as be able to trade cards and create their own custom decks.   • LaLa: Starting August 12th, the Nintendo 3DS will drop its price to $169.99. If you have an older generation DS, take advantage of Gamestop's system trade-in to save even more!
  • Power Surge: Bleach: Soul Resurreccion was released on August 2 for the PS3. Hack and slash your way through the entire Hueco Mundo and Fake Karakura Town Arcs of the anime. The combat system is solid and easy to grasp.
  • DarkPoet: Looking for an interesting game to play as you wrap up your summer? Look no further than Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Not a well-known game but proving to be an improvement in the slow game market this summer.

Kalamari Kastles Events for August!

  • looooo: The annual J-POP SUMMIT FESTIVAL will be returning to Japan Town in San Francisco on August 27th and 28th. The pop culture themed street fair will be taking over Post street from Webster to Laguna and the Peace Plaza yet again for another fun filled weekend. h.NAOTO will have a pop-up shop set up as a promotion for their upcoming store opening, so it'll be a great opportunity to check out the goods, along with the chance to meet designer Naoto Hirooka at the VIP Party, his fashion show, and the h.NAOTO Tokyo Collection screening! There will also be a BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT fashion contest for all you lolitas that will be present. Check out the programming for the weekend here
  • DJ Helsing: Fan Expo Canada is coming up in a few weeks and is looking to be one of the best Canadian conventions of the year. Every year thousands of fans of alternative culture attend one of Canada’s largest celebrations of pop culture. In years past Fan Expo has been host to numerous movie and television stars hosting panels, discussions and autograph sessions. This year William Shatner from Star Trek, Tom Felton from Harry Potter, Hayden Panettiere from Heroes, Michael Shanks from Stargate, Kevin Sorbo from Hercules and many more stars will be attending making Fan Expo the go to event for Canadian fans.
  • LaLa: The Made in Hong Kong film festival is all this month and free to the public at the Freer Art gallery in Washington, DC.
  • Power Surge: On August 19-21, Anime World Chicago kicks off its first year and it's gearing to be an amazing time! Located at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare in Chicago, IL Anime World boasts many great panels, tons of arcade and console video games, hours and hours of great anime programming, a Masquerade, a rave dance and best of all special guests! Vic Mignogna, the famous voice behind anime icons such as Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist, Dark in DN Angel, and more, will be attending on Sunday only but promises a full day of great fun! Also along for the ride are Mark Hildreth, the voice of Heero Yuy in Gundam Wing and Carli Moiser, voice of Detective Yukika in Nerima Daikon Brothers as well as other industry guests. Come join the fun!
  • DarkPoet: Daniel Tosh from Tosh.0 is going on a comedy tour, sure to provide lots of chuckles he'll be in Sacramento on August 17th

  • looooo: Q Pop has finally started getting their Japanese brand items on their webstore. Sex Pot Revenge, Algonquin, Super Lovers and eventually Swimmer items will all be there for purchase. Viva easier access to Japanese brands!
  • LaLa: The latest fashion trend among teen girls and young adults are large framed glasses. It's geek-chic mixed with ultra cute! You wear them with either clear plastic or just the frames - I think the black frames look best. Best of all, both guys and girls can rock this look. Here's an example of a cute couple in Harajuku and another guy in Harajuku

Kalamari Kastles Art and Music for August!

  • looooo: The Hollywood Bowl is going to be host to a killer weekend of amazing classical music, best associated with the Disney masterpiece, Fantasia! To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conductor John Mauceri is returning to recreate the magic that was created by Walt Disney and his animators - "an evening of selections from the classic film with clips on the Bowl’s big screen accompanied live by the orchestra. You’ll see your favorites, plus a glimpse into the brilliant artwork and unfinished segments of this Disney masterpiece. The evening ends with fireworks that complement the spectacular beauty of this cinematic triumph."
