So back when the Kalamari Kastle crew and I were planning our Sweet Streets II opening weekend itinerary, we decided that one of the places we definitely wanted to visit and cover was JapanLA.
JapanLA’s Rilakkuma Party
Saturday marked yet another exciting party to celebrate our cute new friend Rilakkuma (and the rest of his friends) coming to America. Did you know that Rilakkuma is ranked as one of the top five most popular characters in Japan? I think it's because his name actually means "relax bear"; who doesn't like a bear who appreciates taking life easy?
VIP Rilakkuma Party
On August 12th, JapanLA and Bubble Punch threw a weekend celebration of San-X & Rilakkuma stateside. Kicking off the festivities was a VIP party at Umami Burger, filled with delicious samples of their burgers, fried items, skewered items, ice cream sandwiches and Lil’ Rae cake balls! Cute stuff and free food? That makes me a happy girl. You know what else makes me happy? Jumping photos.

Rilakkuma Weekend Party & Pop-Up Shop
JapanLA is going to have another weekend of epic partying, this time for Rilakkuma!
Who is Rilakkuma? Rilakkuma, a combination of the Japanese pronunciation of relax and the Japanese word for bear, is a Japanese character produced by the San-X company. He is a soft toy bear who has apparently decided to take up residence at female office worker Kaoru's apartment one day.
His favorite foods are dango, pancakes, omurice and custard pudding. True to his name, he enjoys relaxing and his favorite things include sleeping, lying around, watching television, listening to music and soaking in hot springs. He loves using Kaoru's yellow bean bag pillow.
